Smooth or patterned textured decorative finishes to the external wall surfaces of a building.

Exterior rendering is the term most commonly used for an exterior plaster finish which is applied to the facade and external walls of a building. It consists of a mixture of sand and cement that is applied to the exterior walls of a building as a protective layer against the elements, adding both insulation and a waterproof coat to the building. Rendering can also be used to cover up damaged or unsightly brickwork, breeze blocks, old pebble dashing or to insulate a timber frame construction. It can also be manipulated to create either a smooth or patterned and textured decorative finishes to the external wall surfaces of a building.

Rendering Two Coat Process

The scratch coat is the base layer that forms the bond between the existing brickwork or surface wall and the new surface render that is used to cover over the blemishes and create a smooth surface for the top coat to be applied to. The top coat is a sand and cement render of a fine consistency which enables the rendering to be finished with a smooth, even and waterproof external layer. Once this layer has dried it is then ready for painting.

For our external building work services, we provide rendering & roughcasting in all colours of chips and backgrounds, wet-casting, smooth render and pebble dashing. We use enewall renders & aggregates to achieve background colour match, quality and performance.

Pebble Dash

Create smooth sheet-like surfaces using the best quality products.

Pebble dashing is a cost effective means of covering unsightly brickwork or breeze blocks and can be used to add a sense of character that is often associated with period properties. By the nature of its textured appearance and natural rustic charm, pebble dash can transform the look of a building drastically.

The term ‘pebble dash’ is used to describe this external rendered finish because smooth pebbles or jagged spa are thrown or “dashed” onto a topcoat of render so that they stick to it before it dries and provide a weathering surface.

Pebble Dash Paisley

Some pebble dash renders are referred to as ‘spa’ which consists of jagged chippings that are then embedded into and adhere to the render better, which tends to last longer. You can choose a spa stone, which are often used for their particular natural colours and textures, or alternatively you may wish to opt for ordinary stones and simply paint over them for a more subtle uniform effect.
